Dystocia
This is the situation where guinea pigs find it difficult to survive during pregnancy. The reason being, the babies are usually born in sizes ‘large’ and they are quite active. This is a condition where excessive gas is built up in the stomach and intestines of a guinea pig. When this happens, the pig is not able to eat normally, and they tend to consume lesser than what they actually can. It then begins to cause discomfort and thus may lead to death.
If your guinea pig shows sign of refusal to eating, it is a sign of alarm and takes them to a vet immediately.
Ectoparasites
Guinea pigs need to stay very far from lice and mites. As the name suggests, if guinea pigs are prone to parasites, it may harm the body, slowly eating away the good bacteria on the guinea pig’s body, leading to the death of the pig.
